Tattoos aren’t just for the weekend, they’re for life. Parents and Grandparents (and basically anyone else who isn’t ‘young and cool’) will tell you not to ruin your body but what do they know right! WRONG! These people care about you and your future and they fully understand the risks of getting a tattoo, and so do we.

It’s for this reason that we want to suggest a few steps you should follow to make sure you won’t be walking back to your elders with your tail between your legs as they’re all saying “we told you so”. We all know that awful feeling!!

So here are 7 Solid Steps which will save you from the torment of your elders telling you they were right…again!…

1. RESEARCH!

Look at the tattoo artist portfolio. Ask to see healed images of their previous work, not just tattoos that are still wrapped up in cling film.

Just because someone has a tattoo gun and can offer some cool ideas doesn’t mean they have had the proper training or can actually draw!

2. Don’t Price Shop

If some punk sitting in a tattoo studio says he’ll give you a great tattoo for £10 you should run a mile! Be prepared to pay whatever it takes to get the tattoo you want.

Pick cheaper pens and save your money on store own beans, don’t go cheap when it’ll be on your body for life!

3. Check Out The Shop In Person

It doesn’t matter what their paper advert reads, go and meet the artist in person and check the place is clean before you commit to anything.

4. Don’t Drink and Ink!

You don’t need us to tell you this. We all know better. Besides, a good tattoo artist won’t tattoo you if you’re drunk.

5. Eat Something Before You Go In

Passing out isn’t cool and no-one wants to see you on the floor. Eat some dinner or bring some sweets to chew on until the job’s done.

6. Accept That This Is Going To Hurt!

We’re big and tough and have had loads of tattoos and believe us when we say, “getting a tattoo HURTS”!

Getting a half finished tattoo because you can’t continue due to the pain isn’t a story you want to be telling your girlfriends, mates or kids…we’re all tough until proven otherwise!

7. Think Twice Before Getting Writing

Just because an artist can draw like Picasso/Banksy doesn’t mean they can spell, and a ‘missspelt’ word is something everyone will notice as a mistake.
